Coal Mining
Mapping techniques are an essential part of coal mine planning and provide the means of development, reclamation, day to day operations and equipment moves.
Exploration through geological mapping will provide the detailed information on coal seams, strata above and below the seam, rock formation and types of rocks, geologic structures, stream data as well as man made structures. It is extremely important in underground coal mining that a seam is chosen based on closely 100 percent cored analytical information. Cobalt Exploration uses a combination of ground geophysical methods as well as aerial methods in order to obtain this information. The major advantage of the ground geophysical method known as “logging” – drill hole geophysical survey- is that they are in direct contact with the earth giving us important information such us the type of coal present, the thickness of the seam as well as the condition of the floor and roof of the strata. Drilling is the most reliable method of gathering information for coal deposit and the mining conditions. It provides physical samples of the coal and overlying strata for chemical and physical analysis in order to determine coal rank and grade. At Cobalt Exploration we use methods such as spatial pattern over large areas, grid pattern over narrow areas as well as spaced drill-hole pattern over areas where coal is known to exist. Drilling information will also provide reliable data that will help choose the mining method. In underground coal mining the working environment is enclosed by the geologic medium which consists of the coal seam (portals) and the overlying and underlying strata.
Hard Rock Mineral Exploration
Cobalt Exploration has the capability to explore hard rock mineral deposits worldwide. Our ability to explore and drill through the use of conventional and non conventional methods enables Cobalt Exploration to analyze typical and atypical resources of hard rock mineral deposits regardless of the challenges. In remote areas where suitable roads do not exist we utilize helicopter transportable land rigs (heli-rigs) to ensure hard rock mineral exploration. Our drilling diversity is our clients success.
